About Lord Vishnu
- Vishnu is the Hindu god of preservation and is often referred to as the “sleeping god.” He is often depicted as reclining on a coiled serpent or a lotus flower, with his wife Lakshmi massaging his feet. There are many stories and legends about why Vishnu is always sleeping, but the most common one is that he is in a constant state of meditation, which allows him to maintain balance in the universe.
In Vastu Shastra, the traditional Indian architectural system, the placement of statues, including the sleeping Vishnu statue, is believed to have an impact on the energy and harmony of a space. Here are some suggestions for placing a sleeping Vishnu statue according to Vastu principles:
Direction: The ideal direction to place a sleeping Vishnu statue is the east or west direction. Placing it in these directions is believed to bring positive energy and spiritual growth to the occupants of the space.
Sleeping Position: The statue of Lord Vishnu should ideally be in a reclining or sleeping position. This symbolizes rest, relaxation, and peacefulness. The deity’s right side should face upwards, and the left side should face towards the ground.
Altar or Puja Room: It’s recommended to place the sleeping Vishnu statue in a dedicated altar or puja room. This space should be clean, well-organized, and spiritually charged. Avoid placing it in bedrooms or spaces where there is negativity or clutter.
Cleanliness: Regularly clean and maintain the statue. Dust and dirt accumulation can disrupt the flow of positive energy. A clean and well-maintained statue is believed to enhance the spiritual vibrations in the space.
Height: The statue should be placed at a height where it is easily visible and can be respectfully worshiped. It should not be too high or too low.
Materials: The statue should ideally be made of materials like brass, bronze, or Panchaloha (an alloy of five metals), as these materials are considered spiritually charged and conducive to positive energy.
Positioning: The statue should not be placed in a way that the feet of the deity are pointing towards the main entrance of the room or house. This is considered disrespectful.
Facing: If the deity’s feet are pointing towards the entrance of the room, make sure that the head of the statue is pointing towards the inside of the room. This is believed to be a more auspicious arrangement.
Placement: If you’re placing the sleeping Vishnu statue along with other deities, ensure that it is positioned higher than the rest. Vishnu is often considered a preserver and a higher-ranking deity.
Intention: While placing the statue, do so with a sense of reverence and devotion. The intention and energy with which you set up the statue can influence the spiritual atmosphere of the space.
Remember that Vastu guidelines are based on traditional beliefs and practices, and their impact may vary from person to person. If you’re unsure about the specifics, it’s a good idea to consult with a Vastu expert who can provide personalized guidance based on your specific circumstances.
