- Kasauti pathar, also known as a touchstone, is a small, dark-colored stone used to test the purity of valuable metals like gold. The stone has a smooth surface that leaves a mark when soft metals are rubbed against it. The color of the mark left by the metal indicates its purity. The touchstone was used in the Indus Valley civilization during the Harappa period (2600–1900 BC) and in Ancient Greece. The purity of gold can be determined by applying a drop of acid to the mark left on the stone. Real gold will stay on the stone, while fake gold will dissolve or oxidize and turn blue. Kasauti pathar is often made from natural obsidian or other materials with similar properties. Kasauti pathar can be used to test the purity of jewelry, coins, antique gold, silver, and platinum collectibles.
CARE
- Kasauti Pathar Shiv Ling from India do not need much maintenance. The best way to maintain the statue is to simply dust the piece periodically to keep any dirt from accumulating. They can be used for both indoor and outdoor use. You can use soap, warm water and a cotton cloth to periodically, go over the statue/sculpture to remove any dust or dirt buildup. You can use a small amount of natural oil such as coconut oil or olive oil to further polish the sculpture/statue. You can use a small brush to get into the small crevices of the statue like the hands and hair. We suggest you bathe the sculpture at least once a year so that dirt does not collect on the sculpture. This will maintain the sculpture for your grandchildren and then their grandchildren!
